Roy E. Littler
Roy E. Littler, 79, Nashwauk, Minn., died surrounded by family and friends Saturday June 20, 2015 at the Virginia Essentia Health Hospital, Virginia, Minn. He was born at home in Beltrami County to John and Gladys (Clapp) Littler on June 3, 1936. He moved to Nashwauk, MN as a young man at the age of 17 where he began working for Paakkonen Lumber. At the age of 18 Roy began working for Hanna Mining Co. He worked on trains, drove truck and was a laborer. He later became one of the best shovel operators that Hanna had the privilege of employing. Roy retired from Hanna in 1992 after working for 37 years. He married his wife Alice M. Andrews on May 16, 1959. Roy loved his family and enjoyed attending all activities that they were involved in. He was an active member of the Abundant Life Church. He enjoyed going on mission trips, and was very involved in the senior’s ministry. Roy loved sports, as a young teen he played football and was involved in Golden Gloves boxing. During mining layoffs and strikes, he enjoyed harvesting wild rice and working in the woods making money selling pulp. He also loved hobby farming and going to Auction sales.
He is survived by his wife Alice, his children, Lonnie Littler, Hibbing, Mary Jo (Roger) Weber, Nashwauk, and Roxanne (Greg) Rengstorf, Hibbing, brothers, Floyd (Donna) Littler, Clifford Littler, Vernon (Sharon) Littler, Johnny (Sherri) Littler, sisters, Beatrice Kolkin, Vera Cooper, Vona (Gene) Tardy, Gladys (Harlan) Jensen, and Charlotte Jackson, nine grandchildren, Mandy, Chris (Ashley), Samantha, Brady, Anneka, Blessing (John), Kirk, Sarah (Jeremy), and Nicole, seven great grandchildren, Tyler, Jordan, Kylie, Colton, Cole, Caden, and Aria, two foster grandchildren, Robin and Kayla, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bernice Tardy, and his daughter Debbie Sporer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Friday, June 26, 2015 in the Abundant Life Church, 1637 E. 40
th
St., Hibbing, with Pastors Bill Adamson and Donald Velo officiating. Visitation will be in Church from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Thursday and continue at 10:00 am. Friday. Pallbearers will be, Chris Rengstorf, Kirk Weber, Brady Littler, John Rahier, Jeremy Tillitson, and Jim Card. Honorary pallbearer will be Reid Velo. Burial will be in the Nashwauk Cemetery.
