Royce D. Bird
Royce D. Bird, 83, of Keewatin, passed away Thursday June 1, 2017 at the Heritage Manor in Chisholm, MN. Royce was born January 12, 1934 to Royce and Dorothy (Ranftl) Bird in Bemidji, MN. Royce married the love of his life Mary (Zozgornik) in South Dakota on August 6, 1965. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. of Keewatin and also the American Legion Post of Keewatin. Royce was a lifetime carpenter and an avid woodcarver. He made everything from diamond willow canes, to hope chests and even a grandfather clock. He volunteered for Community Education teaching woodcarving. Royce also restored and loved classic cars and was a member of the “Shifters” car club. Royce loved his family most of all and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Royce is survived by his wife Mary of Keewatin MN, his daughters Lisa Crum of Scandia, and Susan (Larry) Williams of Minneapolis, MN; his grandchildren: Eli, Katie, and Carolyn Crum, and Sam and Josie Bird, and great-grandchildren Xavier and Briella. He was preceeded in death by his parents, a daughter Christine, and siblings Ernie, Ed, Alice, Walter, Shirley and Bernice.
Funeral services for Royce will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday June 6, 2017 at The Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing, The Rev. Andrew Petter will officiate. Visitation will be 10:00 am till 11:00 am at the funeral home. A private burial will be held in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, MN. Services are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
