Rudolph P. “Rudi” Offre

Rudolph P. Offre, 89, Hibbing, died Monday, October 24, 2016, at his home of 58 years.  He was born in Hibbing to Charles and Madeline Offre on January 10, 1927.

Rudi (as most knew him by) graduated from Hibbing High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Marines during WWII, 1945 – 1947.  He was united in marriage to Myrna Held on May 6, 1950.  Rudi is best known for his three restaurants in Hibbing – the Tic Toc which was located across from the high school 1964 - 1969, Rudi’s Pizza on the beltline in the present Hardee’s location 1968 - 1978 and the current Rudi’s Pizza on Howard Street since 1979.  He sold the restaurant to John Pritchard, who was like a son to him, in 1984, but he never really retired.  He enjoyed stopping there every morning to meet the bread delivery man and could still be seen there every Saturday dinner hour.  He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church and the VFW Post 8510. Rudi was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing in the men’s league at the “Muni” and was also an accomplished bowler.  He loved gardening and working with his hands; always building something, particularly with wood.

Rudi is survived by his wife, Myrna, of Hibbing; four children:  Randy, of Grand Rapids, Deb Manney of Hibbing; Kathy (Ron) Bubar of Eden Prairie; and Sue (Steve) Meyer of Eden Prairie; 5 grandchildren:  Tifanie (Dan) Koski of Hibbing, Shannon Brown of Venice, California; Hunter Manney of Hibbing, Maddy and Jenny Meyer of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; and 1 great grandchild, Gauge Koski of Hibbing.

He was preceded in death by a son, Craig, in 1982; a son-in-law, Homer Manney in 2012; his parents; a sister, Linda Befera; and a brother, Rinaldo who was killed in WWII.

A private funeral will be held.  Burial with military honors will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home.
