Ruth F. Steffy, 94, Grand Rapids, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 in Cornerstone Villa in Buhl.  She was born in Bear River, MN to Mathis and Botilda Fridlund on November 10, 1917 and lived in Cohasset for over 60 years.  She received her RN from Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago where she was recognized as Nurse of the Year.  Ruth was an RN at Itasca Memorial Hospital for many years working the 11 to 7 shift so she could be home for her children.  She also taught at Itasca Community College in the LPN Program.  During WW II she worked as a Welder on Ships in Sturgeon Bay.  She married Ed Steffy in August of 1952 and they spent their life in Cohasset. Ruth was an awesome cook and seamstress.  She was an amazing Mom and wife. She loved her family and sacrificed for all of them.  Grandchildren were very special to her and could always get a smile. We would like to thank all of the wonderful and extraordinary staff at Cornerstone Villa in Buhl for giving Mom love and compassion these past two years, and restful peace in her final days with us.
She is survived by her four daughters, Debbie Witkofsky, Dyess AFB, TX, Lisa Watson, Pleasanton, CA, Sandy Steffy, Mizpah, MN, and Becky (Kerry) Hecimovich, Mt. Iron, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Nic (Gladys) Flannigan-Star and Sky, Dyess AFB, TX, Jollene (Josh) Latvala-Caiden and Caleb, Cohasset, MN, Mitch (Marcie) Witkofsky, Cohasset, MN, Clay (Poppy)Witkofsky- daughter, Colby, Grand Rapids, MN, Will (Rachel) Watson- son Caiden, Richfield, MN, Kyle Hecimovich, Northfield, MN, and Adam Hecimovich and Fiance’ Janell Eckert, St. Paul, MN.  She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Edla, Runa, Joel, Ezra, Paul, David &  Nora, infant child, Mark Charles Steffy, and her husband, Edwin Charles Steffy in August of 1993.
Private family services were held with burial in the Itasca Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. Please sign the on line guestbook at www.doughertyofhibbing.com.
