Ruth Mae Wiedenfeller VanDelinder
Ruth Mae Weidenfeller VanDelinder died July 15, 2015 in Hibbing, Minneosta. She was born June 22, 1927 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to Raymond Philip Weidenfeller and Mae Henrietta Mathis Weidenfeller. She grew up in Coleraine, Minnesota attending local schools and graduated from Greenway High School in 1945 as salutatorian of her senior class. She graduated magna cum laude from Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota in 1950 earning a degree in medical technology. She was briefly employed as a medical technologist at the Mesaba Clinic in Hibbing, Minnesota, prior to her marriage to Marion Delbert (“Van”) VanDelinder on August 19, 1950 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Ruth was active in many community organizations including the American Association of University Women, the P.E.O. sisterhood and the Hibbing Public Library board. She was a longtime member of the Hibbing First Presbyterian Church. Over the years, Ruth shared her creative talents in designing and sewing costumes for numerous local ballet and theatre productions. She also shared her knitting talents to create sweaters for her children and grandchildren, as well as making tiny hats for infants in neo-natal intensive care units and wool helmet liners for U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan. Ruth also volunteered and served for many years on the board of the Mesaba Concert Association, working to bring annual, affordable performances by world-renowned musical artists to the Range.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, husband Van and her brothers Gordon and Donald and sister Barbara. She is survived by her four children, Judy (Steve) Jensen, Peter (Ellen) VanDelinder, Jean (Brad) Rickelman, and Janet (James) Zoretic. She is also survived by her grandchildren Erik (Jenni) Jensen, Torin (Genna) Jensen, Liesle Jensen, Lindsay (Nick) Brown, Michael VanDelinder, Katharyn (Charles) German and Sarah Zoretic; and one great grandchild, Joren.
Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 12:30pm, Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Jim Deters will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Tuesday. A private interment will be held at the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. Memorials are preferred to the friends at the Hibbing Public Library.
