Sandy J. (Wauzynski) Walters
Sandy J. Walters, 67, longtime resident of Side Lake, died Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at home with family by her side. She was born on August 26, 1947, to Edward and Helen (Lastovich) Wauzynski in Hibbing. She attended Brooklyn Elementary School and graduated from Hibbing High School. She also completed a two-year secretarial program at Hibbing Junior College. She was employed with F.H. Bathke, where she met the love of her life, prior to getting married. Sandy and Tex entered the Sacrament of Marriage on October 7, 1972, in Hibbing. They briefly lived with Tex’s family until they built their current home at Side Lake, where they raised their family of three children. Sandy was a true family person; she loved caring for everyone and even held community breakfasts at the house for all of the kids just about every Sunday. Her hospitality was second to none; she would always openly greet the countless people who would just pop in for a visit. She cherished her children and grandchildren and always enjoyed attending their many sporting activities. Along with Tex, Sandy also helped raise two special great nieces and nephews Coral and Kaden. To many, Sandy was also known as the “Cake Lady.” She designed cakes for all of Corey Mayer Catering’s functions: weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and just about any occasion that called for a cake. She loved berry picking and reading as her pastimes. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Tex Walters, Side Lake, MN; three sons: Dwayne (Paulette) Walters, Buhl, MN, Shane Walters, Side Lake, and Owen (Jen) Walters, Hibbing; two siblings, John (Sue) Wauzynski, and Linda (Fred) Lung, both of Cherry, MN; her three precious grandchildren: Easton Walters, Buhl, MN, and Sidney Walters, and Alexis Walters, both of Hibbing; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services for Sandy will be held at 12 PM, Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Nick Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until the 12 PM service at the funeral home on Saturday. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Northstar Hospice of Hibbing. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to all the staff at Northstar Hopsice for the wonderful support and kindness they showed during the past few weeks.
