Sherman A. Kolden
Sherman A. Kolden, 73, Hibbing, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017 in his home. He was born July 11, 1944 in Middle River, MN, the son of Lester and Anna Kolden. Sherman graduated from Hibbing High School in 1962. He also attended the University of Minnesota studying mechanical engineering and graduated from the Hibbing Community College with a science degree. He had worked for National Steel as a mechanic retiring in 2000. He was an active member of the Fist Lutheran Church, a member of the Maple Hill Community Club, the Sons of Norway, the Laurentian Divide Camping Club and was a longtime Little League coach.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, his children James (Liz) Kolden and Matthew Kolden, both of Hibbing, a sister Darlene (Verdon) Mensink of Amarillo, TX, a brother Gary Kolden of Las Vegas, NV and his grandchildren Carly, Drew, Blake and Riley. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Pamela and his brothers Myron, Laurel, Carrol. Sherman touched many lives with his kindness and warm smile.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 in the First Lutheran Church. Visitation will be in the Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing on Sunday, Oct. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. and then in the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
