Shirley Mae Stunkard, 92, Hibbing, passed away Sunday morning November 18, 2018, at Heritage Manor in Chisholm. Shirley was born February 14, 1926 to Otto and Ruth (Lindstrom) Yauch in Duluth, MN. She received her Associate in Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota and worked for Dr. Charles Bagley (Duluth MN) for three years as a Medical Technician. On June 19, 1950, she married Bruce Stunkard. They moved to Hibbing in 1975 where they became involved in many aspects of the community. Following the death of her husband in 1987, Shirley and her son Steve continued to reside in their home on Highland Drive until 2017. Shirley loved her family and neighbors, the color purple, cardinals, the Vikings and Twins, baking, playing bridge, spaghetti from Sammy’s, dining out at Grandmas“ and “the sun, o the sun”. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Hospital Auxiliary and PEO. She served on the board of the H.O.P.E. Association, now known as Range Center of Chisholm and remained a Republican until the end. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Ruth and her husband, Bruce. She is survived by, her children, Bruce (Leslie) Stunkard of Hudson, WI, Steve Stunkard of Hibbing, Tom (Jane) Stunkard of Gilbert, MN, Patricia Stunkard of Virginia, MN; her sister, Ruth Berquist, Minneapolis; five grandchildren, Britta (James) Kruse, Kristofer (Maegan) Stunkard, Dana (Greg) Dresen, Erin (Josh) Crowe, Kelly (Kraig) Bodie; twelve great-grandchildren, Henrik and Benjamin Stunkard, Holly, Hudson, Harper and Hadleigh Dresen, Zane, Reese, Paige and Bryn Crowe, Karsen, Konnor Bodie; niece, Susan Montejohn, and nephew, Scott Berquist. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Inurnment will be in the churches columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Range Center of Chisholm.
