Silvio F. “Bud” “Nonny” Badiali
Silvio F. Badiali, 94, found his “peace and quiet” Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing after a lingering illness.
He was born to Peter and Adele (Sofanelli) Badiali on March 9, 1920 in Chisholm. Silvio graduated from Chisholm High School where hockey was his game. He later became a lifelong resident of Hibbing. Silvio was drafted into the U.S. Army, proudly serving as a (S SGT) in the Medical Corps., during WWII. In 1943, he entered the Sacrament of Marriage with the love of his life, Josephine Butcher. After the War, Silvio worked in the mines with Oliver Mining Co. After the mine, Silvio was employed for twenty years as a carpenter for I.S.D. 701 of Hibbing. He enjoyed hunting, family fishing outings, gardening, (especially his tomato plants), and working with wood. Silvio enjoyed cracking a good joke, and maintained his keen wit until the end.
He is survived by his two children, David Badiali, Chicago, IL, and Rita (Ron) Leppanen, Farragut, TN, two grandchildren, Eric and Christy; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Kelsey, sister, Dorothy Prebil, Chisholm, sister-in-law, Rose Badiali, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Josphine in 2004, his parents, Peter and Adele, brother, Louis Badiali, and sister Rose De Bellis.
Per Silvio’s request, a private graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. The family would like to express special thank you’s to Guardian Angels, and Northstar Hospice for the wonderful care they received. Lastly a very special thank you goes to his niece and God-daughter, Carol (Badiali) Lahti, and her husband Dick.
