Slava Damyanovich
Slava Damyanovich, 95, lifelong resident of Keewatin, died Thursday, November
27, 2014 at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing. She was born on April 7, 1919
to Joseph and Dorothy Plesha in Stevenson Location near Hibbing. A homemaker by
trade, Slava was an avid reader and loved the Keewatin Library and staff. She was a
member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keewatin.
She is survived by her daughter, Georgene (Bruce Gustin) Savolainen, St. Paul,
MN, two grandchildren, Jeff (Laura) Savolainen, St. Paul, MN, and Amy(Charlie)
Campbell, Brainerd, MN, five great-grandchildren, Katie, Rodney, and George
Campbell, Elijah and Zachary Savolainen, her sister, Mary Egle, Auburn, WA, and many
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Dorothy, her husband,
George Damyanovich in 1975, three brothers, Joseph, Mike, and John Plesha, four
sisters, Catherine Muster, Julia Stupar, Frances Makela, and Sophie Welsh, her niece,
JoAnn Markovich, and her son-in-law, Todd Savolainen.
Per Slava’s request there will be a private graveside service to be held at the
Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing in the Spring. Arrangements are with the Dougherty
Funeral Home of Hibbing.
