Sophie Chupurdia, 91, Pengilly, died Friday, October 13, 2017 at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids, MN. She was born on July 12, 1926 to George and Mary Stupar in Hibbing. Sophie was a member of St. Vasilije of Ostrog Serbian Church in Chisholm. She was also a member of the local 2660 union. Sophie was employed with Butler Brothers, and National Steel as a Lab Technician. She loved spending time with her friends and family.
She is survived by her brother, Pete Stupar, Nashwauk, three nieces, RoseAnn Urbick, Hibbing, Kathy Mattson, Nashwauk, and Barbara Branum, also of Nashwauk, MN., and her nephew, Tom Stupar of Hibbing, along with many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Melvin, four siblings, Stanley, Mike, Sam Stupar, and Donna Vukmir.
Per Sophie’s wishes, there will be a private graveside service held at Nashwauk Cemetery in Nashwauk, MN. Fr. Radomir Plavsic will officiate. Pallbearers are; Tom Stupar, Chuck Mattson, Scott Brazier, Stacy Brazier, Deion Harris, Dylan Mattson, Chazz Brazier, and Amaiyah Robinson. Memorials of choice preferred in memory of Sophie. The family would like to thank the Nashwauk Ambulance for their many services. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
