Stella Dorothy (Kennedy) Konesky
Stella D. (Kennedy) Konesky, 93, Chisholm, died peacefully surrounded by love from her family on Saturday, June 4, 2016 in Hibbing. She was born March 19, 1923, to Thomas and Stella (Allard) Kennedy. Stella grew up in Pool Location and attended McGolrick Institute as a child and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. While raising her family, she was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm. Upon graduating from Hibbing High School in 1942, Stella moved to Washington, DC, where she worked for the Federal Government in a civil service capacity during World War II. When the war ended, she moved back to Hibbing and continued dating the love of her life, Steve “Steff” Konesky until they were married May 14, 1949. While a member of St. Joe’s Catholic Church, Stella was a greeter, befriender, and a Eucharistic minister. She belonged to the National Council of Catholic Women and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. Stella had a special place in her heart for the family cabin on Loon Bay Road on Side Lake, and spent many summers there with her beloved husband and family. She loved to entertain family and friends and the cabin was always full of the people who meant the most to her in life. Stella began working at Hibbing General Hospital in 1968, and retired in 1986, but remained on call until 1993. She loved her job in Central Supply and looked forward to going to work every day. In her early career days, she worked for a short time at the Chisholm Shirt Factory. When you met Stella, it was immediately obvious that she like you and wanted everyone to know how much she appreciated them and their friendship.
Stella is survived by her three children: Marilou Konesky, Blaine, MN, Michele (Lewis Murray) Konesky, Chisholm, and Steven Konesky, Side Lake; her granddaughters Abby Konesky, Chisholm, Jenny Konesky, Side Lake; a sister, Roseanne Scruggs, Triangle, VA; sister-in-law Eleanor Kennedy of Hibbing; the finest gentleman, companion, and friend, Steve Kerzie, Gilbert; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends;
Stella was preceded in death by her dear husband, Steff, in 1990; by her parents; by brothers Martin, James, Joseph, Thomas, Michael, and John; and sisters Catherine Rodgers, Cecilia Williams, Nora Rupar Koskinen, Frances Sertich, and Mary Jane McLaughlin.
Stella’s family is fortunate to have had their dear mother cared for these last few weeks by Fairvew Range Hospice and for the past nine years by Fairview Range Greenview Residence in Hibbing. Stella’s family is grateful and appreciates the remarkable, caring staff who showed much compassion and love to their mom, making her comfortable and always making her feel at home.
