Steve “Slugger” Prich
Steve “Slugger” Prich, 78, Keewatin, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Saturday Aug. 18, 2012. He died at Grand Village-Lodge in Grand Rapids. He was born May 13, 1934 in Calumet, MN to Mary (Ritz) Prich and Paul Prich Sr.  Steve graduated from Greenway High School and attended Itasca Jr. College.  He served in the armed forces during the Korean War. He worked in the Range Mines prior to relocating in the twin cities area. He retired from Control Data Corp. in Minneapolis in 1980.  Steve was a member of the Keewatin American Legion, the Keewatin Men’s Club, and the Hibbing Elks.  Slugger loved life.  He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing poker and going to the Casino.  He often reminisced about the fun times of growing up in Calumet.  Playing baseball with Roger Maris, pitching for the Calumet Coots and fondly remembering the lifelong friends he made in that small town.  He talked about the good times with his hero, his late brother Spicky and claimed bragging rights about his late sister, Violet’s delicious cooking and baking.  Steve was proud of his Serbian heritage.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Rozann of Keewatin, his brother and best friend, Paul Prich, Jr., Calumet, sisters, Pauline Kolar, St. Cloud, MN, Julia (John) Stocco, Virginia, MN, and Mary Ellen (Wes) Otten, Spring Lake Park, MN, brother in law, Paul Dubovich, Sr., Marble, MN, sister in law, Donna Prich, Mpls, MN, and Uncle Bill Bombich, Gilbert, MN, numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
At Steve’s request, private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
