Steven R. Fisher
Steven R. Fisher, 62, Chisholm, MN, died Sat. Feb. 11, 2017 in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth, MN. He was born April 5, 1954 in Hibbing, the son of Wilber and Margaret Fisher. As a young man Steven played rhythm guitar in the band Phoenix and graduated from the Hibbing High School in 1972. He always looked forward to getting back with his friends at reunions. He then joined the Air Force and when he was 21, he suffered from a debilitating stroke. Steven was determined, and taught himself many basic skills we take for granted. After his rehabilitation, he obtained degrees in electronics and education. He worked for ISD 701 teaching and working in the Special Education Department, both during the normal school year and during summer school. Dedicated to the handicapped, he also ran the Monday night Adults With Disabilities program, and for the Friday night recreation program he was their DJ when they had a dance. He retired from ISD 701 in 2003. Steven also was a motorcycle enthusiast; he was a motorcycle safety instructor, traveling to various communities in the state. He belonged to the Gold Wing Road Riders Assoc. and the Minnesota Wings. After his marriage to Susan Chandler in 2003 he became a member of the American Quarter Horse Assoc. and the Minnesota Quarter Horse Assoc. He was the manager of Fishers Lakeside Acres horse boarding facility in Hutchinson, MN. He and Susan traveled the country participating in numerous horseshows. One of his favorite hobbies was photographing sunsets, sunrises or wildlife. For the past three years Steve enjoyed spending winters in Yuma, AZ.
He is survived by his wife Susan, his children; Kelly Fisher of Baltimore, MD, Kevin Fisher of Hutchinson, MN, Kimysue (Ryan) Johnson of Monticello, MN, Kristy (Christopher) Banks of North Judson, IN, Kirk (Jackie) Ondracek of Hutchinson and Kyle Ondracek of Hutchinson; numerous grandchildren; a niece Susie Chase of Hibbing, his mother in law Betty Chandler of Hibbing, sisters in law: Sandra Nash, Tami Chandler and Lisa (Bob) Koenen; many other relatives and friends and his two dogs Spike and Scout.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Tina Sanders.
A celebration of his life will be held Sat., Feb. 18, 2017 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Open Door Church in Hibbing with a service by Rev. Dave Popilek at 2 p.m. Honorary pallbearers are: Ryan Johnson, Kirk Ondracek, Terry Hammond, Dave Hart, Larry Pocrnich, Christopher Banks, Larry Haugen, Hunter Ondracek and Fischer Ondracek. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery at a later date.
