Susan Claire “Sue” Pierce
Susan C. “Sue” Pierce, 66, Hibbing, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015, in her home after a courageous four year battle with ovarian cancer, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born in Hibbing on June 23, 1948, to Leslie and Lillian Hoganson. Sue graduated from Hibbing High School and had worked for various area businesses including Curves for Women, Sunrise Bakery, and most recently at Recover Health as a personal care assistant. She loved board games, especially Boggle with her sister, Janene, gathering with her girlfriends for coffee, her pets, dinner dates with Alexis, and spending time with her grandchildren. Sue was a breast cancer survivor with a huge heart. She truly placed others before herself. Sue’s family and friends admired her selflessness.
She is survived by three children: Kelly (Doug Speece) Westby of Douglas, WY, Mark (Kelly Hanson) Pierce, Hibbing, and Mike (Sarah) Pierce, Jr. of Hibbing; her companion, Rick James, of Hibbing; a sister, Janene (Jerry) Koski, of Hibbing; a half-sister, Bonnie (Phil) Province, of Inver Grove Heights; six grandchildren: Tianna Aikey, Aleecia Aikey, Alexis Pierce, Konnor Westby—Speece, Nicholas Pierce, and Easton Pierce; a newborn great-grandson, Carson Luckenbihl; her lifelong best friend, Mary Jo Nalezny, of Maple Grove; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and by her beloved dog, Molly. Sue was preceded in death by her parents; by her special aunt and uncle, Glenn and Dorothy Anderson, and by a half-brother, LeRoy Vance.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Wesley United Methodist Church from 1 PM until the 2 PM funeral service. The Rev. Terry Tilton will officiate.
