He was very active at Chisholm Baptist Church, and in his earlier years, enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Roseau area.
Van Dieter was appreciative of life and would often comment; “We have been so blessed.” He was grateful for the love and sacrafices he experienced from his own parents and others, and followed a similar path with his own family. He enjoyed a good and lasting relationship with his wife Marlys as well as his four children and many grandchildren. Though he never was a big man, famous man, or wealthy man, he did become a forgiven man at the age of 48. He was very appreciative of his faith in Christ and continued this journey to the end.
