Victor R. Anderson, 88, Hibbing, died Sunday, January 17, 2016 in the Fairview Range Medical Center, Hibbing. He was born Nov. 6, 1927 in Hibbing, the son of Victor and Alice Anderson. Victor graduated from Hibbing High School in 1945 and was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy. Upon his return from service, he worked in numerous jobs including: the DM & IR, the Oliver Mining Co., the Timmerman Lumber Yard and Erickson Lumber. Following that, he started working for himself. He was owner and operator of Quality Construction, the Cobb Cook Grocery, a Chisholm Laundromat, Vic’s Big Dollar in Buhl, MN, the Montgomery Ward Catalog Agency, Coast to Coast Hardware, Central Laundry, Factory Furniture Sales and lastly Anderson Furniture and Appliance. During that time he had married Joan Peterlin. He was a member of numerous organizations in the area. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Hibbing Moose Lodge, Hibbing Elks Lodge, the VFW Post 1221 and the American Legion Post 222. He was very involved as a Mason, having belonged to and was a past master of the Mesaba Lodge #255, was a member of the Lodge of Perfection, all Scottish Rite Bodies and the AAD Temple Shrine in Duluth. He also was a member and past president of both the Northstar Motorcycle Patrol, the Northstar Shrine Club and was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. Vic also loved music. He started playing the accordian in the Melody Kings during High School and later played in many bands in the area, playing either at the Airway Inn or at various weddings and parties. While living at the Realife Coop Victor was serving as president of the board of directors.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, his son Doug of Mpls, MN, his son Dana (Pam) and their children Bobby, Dana II and Brent of Hibbing his daughter Dawn and her son Gage of Eagan, MN, and his stepdaughter Julie Detlefsen and her children Rachel and Dennis of Maplewood, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Victor “Skip” Anderson and sisters Thelma Indigarrd and Alicia Smith
Masonic services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 in the Dougherty Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service officiated by Rev. Kevin Olson. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 2 p.m. until service time. Military honors will be accorded by the Mid-Range Honor Guard. Burial at a later date will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to; Shriner’s Hospitals for Children; 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL, 33607.
