Victor John Minerich
Victor J. Minerich, 83, Hibbing, died peacefully on Wed. Oct. 12, 2016, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Mountain Iron, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 31, 1933, to George and Theresa Minerich. He graduated from Hibbing High School and was an Army Sergeant having served in the Korean War and remained an additional eight years in the Army Reserves. Victor and his brother, Joseph, co-owned the Bandbox in Leetonia, where his band, The Polkateers, performed. He was an accountant for Hanna Mining until his retirement and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Victor was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family. He had a contagious smile that was loved by all. Playing his accordion was a pleasure for him and all of those who enjoyed his music.
He is survived by his children: Debbie (Barry) Polich, Sue (Jeff) Tomassoni, Carrie (Randy) Yuhala, Raelene (Steve) Hartze, John Thronson, and Daniel Thronson; a sister, Lillian (Terry) Twomey; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Victor was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis “Babe”; by his parents; and by three brothers: George, Albert, and Joseph.
Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, from 4—6 PM at Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing with recitation of the Rosary at 6 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral Mass.
