Walter W. Berg

Walter W. Berg, age 95, of Hibbing passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at his lifelong home in Hibbing, MN. He was born on June 30, 1929, in Hibbing, MN to Karl and Ida Berg.

Walter graduated from Hibbing High School in 1948. After high school he was drafted and served two years in the Marines from 1951-1953. He married his lovely wife Lillian Kuoppala in 1955 and celebrated nearly 70 years together. Walter was a skilled craftsman in woodworking, welding and mechanics. He was often building, designing or making repairs for family and friends. He will be remembered for riding four wheelers into his 80s, his love for farming and his family, the many skills he had, and his pride in his Finnish heritage.

Walter is survived by his wife, Lillian Berg; children, Wayne (Jane) Berg, Jim Berg, Eileen (Jon) Korpi, Sue Berg-Pocquette, Bruce (Sarah Dobson) Berg, and Brian Berg; grandchildren, Reghan Berg, Joe (Brooke) Korpi, Jeff (Lily Kriske) Korpi, Jilly Korpi, Libby Korpi, Sophia (Mitchell) Pleasure-Berg, Hayden (Emily) Pocquette, Luke Pocquette, Jolie Pocquette, and Charlie Pocquette.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Vienna Belto, and Vilja Belto. 

Gathering of Friends and Family will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing, MN. Interment will take place at a later date.
