Walter Smith

Walter Gerald Smith, 79, Hibbing, died Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Hillcrest

Oaks, Hibbing, MN. He was born January 17, 1940 to Walter E. Smith and Mary

(Zacher) Reimer in Superior, WI. He was raised in McGregor, MN, graduating in 1958,

and served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963 on the Aircraft Carrier USS

Independence CVA62. He attended UMD and Brown Institute prior to working at

Medtronics as an electronics technician. He later moved to Hibbing, MN. In later years

Walt enjoyed his church, tinkering with electronic projects, and AA fellowship.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Laurie J. Smith, of Woodbury, MN and

Granddaughter, Emily; sister, Carol Reimer of Duluth; brothers, Joseph A. (Sharon) Smith

of Gilbert, AZ; John D. (Elaine) Smith of Superior, WI and James M. Smith of Hibbing;

nieces and nephews. He and his family appreciated his friends, Rev. Gabriel,

caregivers and Margie Ellefson for her special care of Walter. His parents and sister

Eleanor (Richard) Nedesky preceded him in death.

Memorial service will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the

services at the funeral home. The Reverend Gabriel Waweru will officiate. Inurnment will be at the Sawyer Cemetery at a later date.
