Warren Joel Sogard
Warren Joel Sogard, 86, lifelong Hibbing resident, died Tuesday October 2, 2012, at Guardian Angels Health Care Center, Hibbing. He was born in Hibbing on April 11, 1926, to Joel B. and Merle Sogard. He graduated from Hibbing High School in 1944 and served in the US Army during World War II. Warren was united in marriage to Jean Marie Thiede on November 22, 1953, in Bemidji and they made their home in Hibbing. Warren held many positions for various businesses during his working career, including: the Range Motors parts department, as manager of Clark’s Gas Station, parts manager at Furlong & McHardy Motors, at Duluth Avionics, Hibbing Precision Industries, and Hibbing Community College Maintenance Department, retiring in 1988. Warren was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 222, and the Pioneer Senior Bowling League. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Marie Sogard of Hibbing; a daughter, Catherine (Bruce) Hartenstein, of Hibbing; 2 sons: Dennis Sogard of Brooklyn Park, MN and Thomas (Jean) Sogard of Savage, MN; 3 grandchildren: Amy (Edward Franklin) Sogard, Hannah Sogard, and Emma Sogard; 2 great-grandchildren: Madisyn Franklin and Vincent Franklin; 2 brothers, Delano (Mary) Sogard and Raymond (Vicki) Sogard, both of Hibbing; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathleen Rocchio; and a brother, Dennis D. Sogard.
Visitation will be Saturday October 6, 2012, from 10-11 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church, Hibbing.
