William Louis Galatz
William Louis Galatz, 83, lifelong Hibbing resident, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at his home with family by his side.
He was born in Hibbing on March 21, 1932, to Louis and Marie (Swanson) Galatz. He married Carol Dilley on March 24, 1961.
Bill was a US Army combat veteran of the Korean War, serving from Sept. 15, 1950, until Sept. 18, 1953. He was a union carpenter, Hibbing Firefighter, school bus driver, and he retired from Hibbing Taconite Company as a shovel operator. Bill was an avid fisherman, faithful Minnesota Twins fan, and he enjoyed working on cars in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol; three children: William Galatz, Barbara (Donald) Pasanen, and Richard Galatz; four grandchildren: Kevin Campbell, Daniel Pasanen, Jacklyn Pasanen, and Alexa Thompson; two brothers: Chuck Galatz and Sam (Carol) Galatz; seven sisters: Bonnie (Richard) Dilley, Donna Thellin, Mary Ellen (Bill) Suhonen, Eva (Al) Bement, Rosie (Harold) Peasley, Annie (Bob) Peroceski, and Bobbi (Bill) Jones; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Marie Galatz; and by two brothers, George and Vernon Galatz.
